Bargaining Agreement Updates

SB Bargaining Team

On September 30th, 2008, San Bernardino homecare workers met with the public authority to negotiate the terms of a new contract.

Workers are seeking an increase in pay and hope to gain greater access to affordable healthcare, job placement and training support as well as reimbursement for transportation costs consistently incurred in caring for clients.

Ola Famutumi, a homecare worker of 9 years, stressed the importance of better wages and affordable healthcare for all--the primary focus of current bargainings.  "I want others to know our struggle and what we endure," Famutumi explains, "and what these changes would mean for workers and clients."

The bargaining committee consists of Famutumi and other workers who know firsthand the challenges that caregivers face.  They will continue to bargain with the county until a suitable agreement can be reached.

San Bernardino’s current contract will expire at the end of November 2008.
