ULTCW Joins with Children’s Defense Fund to Offer Free Educational Enrichment Program

The Children’s defense fund, with the generous help of ULTCW and in association with the community group Success in Challenges, will be offering a free educational enrichment program this summer. The program is first-come, first-serve and is open to all children, free of charge.
The
Tyrone Freeman Freedom School aims to provide children with a richer educational experience that is typically found in the local public schools. The program is modeled on the successful Freedom Schools that the Children's Defense Fund runs throughout the country.
Children who attend the program will receive concentrated reading instruction. In addition, they will be trained in conflict-resolution techniques and will have a chance to participate in science activities, arts and crafts, sports, music, drama and weekly field trips. The program is staffed with volunteer teachers from the community who will provide positive role models.
Along with helping kids with their schoolwork, the school also hopes to cultivate a new generation of leaders by helping them to identify and design authentic solutions to community problems.
The program runs from July 21st through August 21st and will be held at the Long Beach Bible College at 455 E. Artesia Boulevard in Long Beach. Interested parents should contact Yvette Elam at 213.703.0596. The deadline for applying is July 5th.
